WHS Management for Furniture Manufacturing
Wood dust drops 50 per cent and formaldehyde drops 70 per cent under incoming WELs. Your extraction systems must be ready.
Furniture manufacturing involves cutting, machining, sanding, assembling, and finishing timber, MDF, particleboard, and composite materials. Wood dust is a confirmed human carcinogen that causes nasal cancer, and the incoming WEL reduces the limit from 1 to 0.5 mg/m³. Formaldehyde released from MDF, particleboard, and plywood during cutting and machining faces a 70 per cent WEL reduction. Spray painting with isocyanate-containing lacquers causes occupational asthma. Machine entrapment in panel saws, thicknessers, spindle moulders, and edge banders is a constant hazard. Noise from woodworking machinery commonly exceeds 90 dB(A) during sustained cutting and machining operations.
