WHS Management for Beverage Manufacturing
Carbon dioxide asphyxiation, ammonia leaks, and high-speed bottling line hazards demand rigorous WHS controls.
Beverage manufacturing encompasses soft drink, juice, water, and other non-alcoholic beverage production involving mixing, carbonation, pasteurisation, filling, and packaging operations. Carbon dioxide used in carbonation creates asphyxiation hazards in enclosed or low-lying areas where the gas can accumulate. Ammonia refrigeration systems are common in large beverage plants, creating acute toxic exposure risk during leaks. High-speed bottling and canning lines present machine entrapment, glass fragment, and noise hazards. Confined space entry is required for tank cleaning and maintenance of large mixing and storage vessels. Wet floors and chemical cleaning create constant slip and chemical exposure hazards throughout the facility.
